Gardens are magical places. They are often a source of much inspiration for writers and artists. Please join us for a midmorning fall walk in the UNCC Botanical Gardens. Comprised of 10 acres of outdoor gardens and a 4500 square foot glass house, the Botanical Gardens serve as a living classroom and as a horticultural and botanical resource for the campus and greater community. We will receive a guided tour from Garden Director Jeffrey Gillman. We will walk through three separate gardens and will be introduced to plants from all over the world, learn interesting facts and stories about them, and why these plants matter.
Afterwards, for those who would like to join us, we will have lunch together at 12:30pm on the patio of the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium, located nearby at 9605 N Tryon Street A in the Terraces at University Place.
The cost for the guided tour is $5.00 per person for members and their guests. Attendees must be able to walk on uneven terrain. Lunch is not included in the fee, and each attendee will be responsible for their own meal.
Registration and payment must be made in advance. If you are unable to attend the garden tour but would like to join us for lunch, please contact Anshu Gupta separately to be included in the restaurant reservation. Lunch reservations must be cancelled by 12 noon on Wednesday, October 13th.
Parking on campus is available in the East Deck at the corner of Mary Alexander Rd and Van Landingham Rd.. Here is a Campus parking map. Please allow time to park and walk to the McMillan Greenhouse. We will meet at the Greenhouse at 10:20 and begin the tour at 10:30 a.m.. The Greenhouse is located on campus, directly across from the Botanical Gardens at 9090 Craven Road, Charlotte, NC 28262
In the event the tour fills up, we will maintain a wait list. If there is enough interest we may be able to add a second tour group.
