Sandra Phillips is a retired teacher who discovered Charlotte Writers’ Club while teaching English in Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools. At one time, CWC sponsored a writing contest for middle and high school students. Her students always entered.

Since retiring, she has served on CWC North committees, joined a poetry critique group, and freelanced for the Charlotte Observer.   As a freelancer, Sandra has written articles about people and events in Mooresville.

She is a member of the Thursday Morning Writers’ Group based in the Lake Norman area and contributed verses to Above the Fold, an anthology of poems published by Main Street Rag in 2014.  The idea for the book resulted from the poets’ discussions and meditations about the importance of fabric as clothing and the underpinning of our lives.

Sandra grew up in eastern North Carolina where relatives and friends gathered on porches to discuss crops, the weather, and community news.  Some folks embellished their stories.  In fall, these memories and those of flue-cured tobacco wafting from warehouses pull her away from the compacted clay of the Piedmont where she has lived since graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill.  In summer, the lure of Lake Norman calls Sandra and her husband to the water where they have trained Labrador retrievers.
